Lighting is a key (and often overlooked) factor in setting the mood at your reception. A low level soft light like the kind given off by candles will create a more relaxed atmosphere. Find out if your venue can dim the lights, provide candles, or string up twinkle lights.

Some of your guests will be more comfortable if the dance floor is as dark as possible to. The guests who may be a little shy about dancing in front of everyone will feel more relaxed if the lights are turned way down. If your DJ is providing a club type light show then that will look more spectacular and benefit from a darker dance floor too.
